Dangers of AI – Business and Personal Risk

If you watch the news, I’m sure you have heard something about Artificial Intelligence also known as AI. But have you heard about the business and personal dangers of AI?

What is Generative Artificial Intelligence?

The term “generative artificial intelligence” (AI) refers to a form of AI system that is designed to generate content, such as writing, graphics, or music, by learning from data that already exists.

When using generative artificial intelligence, the system creates fresh information instead of just evaluating previously collected data. This is done to generate results that are human-like, using algorithms and extensive datasets.

Two examples of AI systems are known as GPT-4 and DALL-E. These are examples of text and picture formats generation tools.

When it comes to our personal and professional lives, the use of AI systems is advancing every day. It is necessary for everyone to be aware of the dangers of AI and is associated use. This includes understanding and adhering to the best practices when using AI.

In order to protect sensitive business and personal information the following categories of data should not be entered into generative artificial intelligence systems:

  • Personally Identifiable Information (PII): which includes names, addresses, social security numbers, credit card numbers, health information and any other data that are considered to be personal information.
  • Confidential Business Information: Some examples include proprietary business plans, internal communications, and financial records, all of which are considered confidential business information.
  • Sensitive Health Information: Medical records or any health-related data covered by regulations like HIPAA.

Generative artificial intelligence provides several concerns in addition to its many benefits, including the following:

  • Data Security: The possibility of data breaches or illegal access to sensitive information putting data security at risk.
  • Misinformation: Content that is created by AI may include errors or be misleading.
  • Intellectual Property: The risk of producing information that breaches intellectual property rights or infringes on copyrights.
  • Bias and Ethical Concerns: Artificial intelligence systems may perpetuate biases that are present in their training data, which might result in unethical outcomes.

It is crucial for all employees to understand and follow organizational policies regarding the use of generative AI.

These policies are designed to:

  • Protect Sensitive Data: Ensure no confidential information is input into AI systems.
  • Maintain Compliance: Adhere to industry regulations and legal requirements.
  • Promote Ethical Use: Encourage responsible and fair use of AI technologies.

Generative AI plays a vital role in enhancing business operations and personal tasks by:

  • Automating Content Creation
  • Improving Customer Engagement
  • Boosting Creativity

However, the advantages of generative AI come with the responsibility to use these tools wisely and securely, safeguarding both business and personal information from potential risks.

It is essential that we understand the business and personal dangers of AI and generative AI.
